Ghana FA rules that Kotoko-Arsenal clash must be replayed

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has ruled that the aborted league match between Kotoko and Berekum Arsenal must be replayed.

The decision has infuriated Arsenal who have threatened to appeal against the decision at the highest level.

The highly-charged sixth week game was called off by referee Sillas Okine because of a heated debate over a clash of jersey colours.

Kotoko were facing the prospect of being losing the three points at stake as well as losing three points from their accumulated tally so far in the league.

Arsenal had argued that Kotoko failed to comply with the GFA rules which led to the clash in colours and wanted all the three points.

But the GFA’s Disciplinary Committee ruled that the match must be replayed because of the uncertainty surrounding who was guilty, which has delighted Kotoko.

"We have received the decision confirming that the Ghana Football Association has ruled that the match must be replayed,” Jarvis Peprah, Kotoko spokesman said.

"Our request was to for the game to be replayed and the Disiciplinary Committee agreed with our arguments.

"We don't want points from the boardroom because we want justice and fair play.

"We are very happy with the decision and we are looking forward a new date for the match to be played.”

While Kotoko are delighted, Arsenal are embittered by the decision insisting they will appeal the decision to the highest level of world football.

Arsenal owner Alhaji Yakubu Moro said: “this decision is grossly unfair and goes against the rules set by that same GFA.

“It is clear that if a team presents a jersey for the pre-match and doesn’t use that jersey for the match itself, it forfeits the points. It is as simple as that.

“We won’t sit down to be treated with disdain and we will strongly appeal the decision to the highest level even if it means going to Fifa.”
