The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will hold showdown talks with Michael Essien in London later this month over his future with the Black Stars.

GFA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi says they will only draw a line under the Chelsea star’s absence from the national team after meeting him.

New Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic has stated that the Chelsea midfield maestro will be key in his reign as the Black Stars boss.

But Essien has been evasive over his return to play for his country after a one-year absence after two serious injuries.

This sparked fury in Ghana with an ex-FA boss Nyaho Tamakloe calling for the Chelsea star’s axing from the team.

However, there is fear that Essien has serious concerns over the treatment he has received from the Ghana authorities when he got serious injuries while playing for the country.

Nyantakyi says it is only right that they meet Essien to listen to his grievances, if there are any, before a decision is made not to pursue him.

A meeting will be lined up in England before the Black Stars friendly against England on 29 March.

Essien has not played for Ghana since his injury at the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
