Ghana FA to send high profile delegation to try and convince Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey to chose Ghana over England

The Ghana Football Association is working over-time to convince Tariq Lamptey to begin his international career with the Black Stars.

Coach C.K Akunnor made a feeble attempt to meet the 19-year-old on his recent trip to England but the players representatives and the Black Stars coach could not find a suitable time.

Lamptey has since then switched from Chelsea to Brighton Hove & Albion were he is enjoying stellar top level performance in the Premier League.

Blessed with lightening pace, skill and agility, the diminutive right back has impressed many in the south coast.

His preferred choice is however to play for England, the country of his berth rather than Ghana, the country of his father.

The Chelsea youth product's path to the English national team however looks bleak with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, Manchester United's Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Chelsea’s Reece James all vying for the same position.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars have struggled to fight a consistent right back for the national team despite Andy Yiadom making the position his own.

In his absence, the Black Stars have had to rely on the versatility of players like Joseph Attamah Larwe, which has not always worked.

C.K Akonnor will be interested in having the 19-year in his team ahead of the return of international football which has been massively affected by COVID-19.

Tariq Lamptey has made eight Premier League appearances for the Seagulls since joining from Chelsea in January.
