The Ghana Football Association says competency will be the byword in selecting a new national team coach and not colour or nationality.

There is massive public outcry for the appointment of an indigenous Ghanaian coach but the Ghana FA will be considering other factors more than nationality.

Local coaches David Duncan and Herbert Addo have all express their interests in taking charge of the Fifa World Cup quarter-finalists.

Ghana FA vice president Fred Pappoe told a local radio station: "Indeed the search for a new coach has begun and we are looking for a competent coach to replace Milovan Rajevac and I know with the experience we have we will appoint somebody on merit."

"No one is saying we don't like Ghanaian coaches. All we are looking for is competency. The colour of the next coach is not important but how best he can do the job is important. The issue of black or white coach should be put aside."

Reports are rife that deputy coach Akwesi Appiah will act as caretaker coach for next month's Africa Cup of Nations against Sudan.
