Ghana league champions Kotoko win coronation match

Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko marked their coronation with a 1-0 win over Tema Youth on Sunday.

Richard Yeboah's blistering head in the 57th minute separated the two sides in a keenly-contested battle at the Baba Yara Stadium on the final day of competition.

Striker Kofi Nti-Boakye replaced Stephen Oduro and his first touch of the ball saw him beat his marker before sending in a delightful cross inside the box with his left foot for the header.

Kotoko made attempts of doubling the lead through Daniel Nii Adjei in the 68th minute but his curled shot drew a great save from Youth goalkeeper Kofi Mensah.

Tema Youth regained possession after 70 minutes but kept the ball in their own half and that did not threaten Kotoko's lead.

Head coach Maxwell Konadu fielded a strong squad including striker Ben Acheampong who has been named in Ghana's squad for the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zambian next month.

Kotoko won the 2011/2012 season with 63 points; 14 more points than second-place AshantiGold.

The Porcupine Warriors won the league with four matches to spare.
