Ghana midfielder Bennard Kumordzi has revealed his decision to extend his stay at Belgian side KRC Genk is to prove a point in the upcoming season.

Kumordzi inked a fresh two-year-contract extension to keep at the Cristal Arena until 2017 despite interest from Italy and France.

Italian Serie A side Chievo Verona were ready to sign the midfielder as they made contacts with the player's agent while newly-promoted French Ligue 1 pair Caen and Metz.

But Kumordzi explains he chose to stay to prove a point in the coming season.

"On my first season I helped the club to win the FA Cup and played in Europe but last season didn't go very well but yet to did better in the Europa League," he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

The midfielder has undergone a successful jaw surgery and is expected to return for pre-season.
