Ghana midfielder Lawrence Agyekum has officially signed a four-year permanent deal with Belgian Pro League outfit Cercle Brugge, following a successful loan spell from Austrian giants RB Salzburg during the 2024/25 season.

The 21-year-old made a remarkable impression throughout the campaign, featuring in 44 matches across all competitions, scoring twice and providing two assists.

Cercle, clearly impressed by his consistency, activated the purchase option in his loan deal to secure his services until 2029.

In an official statement, the club noted: “Cercle Brugge has exercised the purchase option in the loan deal of Lawrence Agyekum... He has signed a contract until 2029.”

Agyekum, a product of Ghana’s WAFA SC, expressed his delight at remaining with the Green and Black: “It’s been a busy season already, but I’m grateful to God for where I am today. I’m happy to stay at Cercle and looking forward to what’s next.”

Cercle’s Sporting Director, Rembert Vromant, also praised the Ghanaian international: “He’s a versatile midfielder with strong technical skills, and he fits perfectly into our playing style. We believe in his continued development.”

Agyekum, who already has one cap for the Ghana national team, was previously linked to French sides Strasbourg and FC Nantes, but opted to stay in Belgium where he has flourished.

With his talent and maturity, Agyekum looks set to become a key figure in Cercle’s midfield in the years to come.
