Highly-rated midfielder Majeed Ashimeru has dismissed rumours of a reunion with former Anderlecht coach Vincent Kompany at Burnley,

The Ghanaian in an interview with Belgian newspaper Le Soir said that speculation linking him to a move to England was 'not serious.'

According to reports in England, Kompany wanted to bring Ashimeru to Turf Moor because the Manchester City legend enjoyed working with the midfielder at Anderlecht.

Ashimeru, a £1.3 million signing from Red Bull Salzburg, shone at Anderlecht under Kompany, helping the club finish third in the table and secure European football for 2022/23.

“I sent (Kompany) a message when he left Anderlecht and he replied to me. I really didn’t see his departure coming,” Ashimeru explains.

“Rumours about my supposed move to Burnley? I heard that too, but it wasn’t really serious. I, myself, had to reassure my father when he called me after a friend told him I was leaving for England.”

Ashimeru has started the new season well, with a goal in two games.
