Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari made his return from injury on Sunday for Saudi Arabian giants Al Ittihad but he ended up on the losing side as they were defeated 2-0 by their arch rivals Al Ahli.

The former AC Milan star was returning to action after spending four weeks on the sidelines because of a knee injury.

The two sides who are based in Jeddah faced off in one of the biggest matches of the season in Saudi Arabia and Muntari was specially prepared for the game as he had recovered from injury.

But he could not prevent his side from going down as Hassan Seraj put the visitors in the lead on five minutes before Omar Al Somah struck in 20th minute.

Al-Ittihad drop to fourth on the Arabian Pro League table following the defeat.

Muntari played the entire duration of the game.
