Ghana name squad of key players for England friendly

Ghana has named all of its key players for this month’s friendly against England at Wembley on 29 March.

Chelsea star Michael Essien is not part of the squad because he has not returned from the self-imposed international exile.

Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan, who is suspended for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo two days before the England game, was named in the squad.

The squad also includes four other players playing their trade in England and playing for Premier League sides.

Goalkeeper Richard Kingson of Blackpool is certain to earn a starting place as well as the Sunderland duo of John Mensah and Sulley Muntari.

Fulham’s John Painstil is set to retain his right-back position as he is preferred over Ukraine-based Samuel Inkoom.

World Cup stars Kevin Prince of AC Milan and Andre Ayew of Marseille will form part of the team while the skilful Kwadwo Asamoah of Udinese will also be part of the team.

Gyan is likely to partner in-form Partizan Belgrade striker Prince Tagoe for the game in England.

Several other youngsters who excelled with the country’s U20 team including talented defender Jonathan Mensah, Opoku Agyemang, David Addy, Daniel Opare and Samuel Inkoom are all part of the squad.
