In England:

Ian Holloway's Blackpool were held to a thrilling 2-2 draw by an enterprising Everton side at the Bloomfield Road.

Ghana first-choice goalkeeper Richard Kingson watched the action from the bench.

There was no game time for right-back John Pantsil as Fulham shared the spoils at home with Aston Villa.

The Cottagers had to rely on Brede Hangeland last-gasp strike to secure a point from the game which ended one-all.

Asamoah Gyan put up a man-of-the-match performance to secure maximum points for Sunderland over Stoke City at the Stadium of Light.

Gyan was twice at hand to ease last weekend's humiliation at Newcastle in the derby.

He nodded home a rebound on the 9th minute and scored a classic goal from a fine volley with four minutes left for play.
