Ghana players go into AFCON quarters with yellow cards wiped

Ghana will go into their quarter-final clash against Cape Verde in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations on a clean slate with their the yellow cards against seven of the players wiped.

Captain Asamoah Gyan , Rabiu Mohammed, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Albert Adomah, Fatau Dauda and John Paintsil all had one yellow cards.

CAF rules state that one yellow cards will be wiped out at the end of the group phase.

This means cards picked up by players during the group phase have been cancelled ahead of the knockout phase.

This gives fresh opportunity to the Black Stars players, weighing up their psyche ahead of the quarter-final clash against the Blue Sharks on Saturday.

The Black Stars produced perhaps their best performance in this year’s tournament with a resounding 3-0 thrashing over the Menas at the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Goals from captain Asamoah Gyan, Christian Atsu and John Boye propelled the West African giants to the heavy win.
