Elmina Sharks Communications Director, Anthony Sedenam says there hasn’t been any decision from management to slash the salaries of players due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some Ghanaian clubs are engaging their players and technical team on salary pay cut due to the Covid-19 which has plunged a lot of clubs into financial stress.

Reports in the local media had indicated that players of Elmina Sharks saw a 65% pay cut on their wages for the month.

The Communication Director explained that it was an error from the Bank and not a salary cut as being reported in the media.

"Management has not taken any decision of slashing the player’s salary, there is no truth in those speculations,”, he told Otec FM.

“We (Management) got we’re alerted by the head coach, Yaw Acheampong on Wednesday that some players are complaining about 65% slash on their salaries.

“We quickly got in touch with the accounts department to find out what has happened", he explained on why some players had their salaries reduced.

"After our accounts department called the bank, They told us (management) that there was a discrepancy, so we instructed them to do everything possible to rectify the situation, according to the bank, those rectifications were done from last Friday to this Monday. It was an error transnational problem between our accounting department and the bank that supposed to do the payment",

He stated emphatically that there hasn’t been any decision to reduce the salary of players.

"The team has not decided or taken any decisions to cut any player salary, whatever is due to the player's, is what we are given them" .

Ghana Premier League side AshantiGold is the only team to agree to a salary pay cut amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
