Ambitious top-flight side Legon Cities have finally confirmed their capture of legend Asamoah Gyan after striker signed for the Ghana Premier League moneybags.
Africa's World Cup legend sealed his returned to the country's top-flight league on Friday night after meeting club President and business mogul Richard Attipoe.
But the club only announced the capture of the striker on Sunday morning - hours after the transfer window was closed - to maximise traction for the player who is a media magnet.
The deal worth more than $1million includes cash and other incentives that convinced the scoring history maker to sign for the team ahead of giants Asante Kotoko.
Gyan's return to the Ghana Premier League is a massive boost not only for the Accra-based club but also to the entire league in the face of flagging audiences and lack of commercial interest.
Gyan, who has been without a club since January, has agreed deal with the Legon-based club after Asante Kotoko failed to meet his demands.
The attacker has agreed a four-year deal which will see him earn more than $1 million - a record in the local transfer.
As part of the deal, Gyan asked the Ghana Premier League side to sign teenage sensation Mathew Cudjoe provide him with the passes to destroy their opponents in the country's top-flight.
Cudjoe played on loan last season at Kotoko but the Porcupine Warriors could not sign him on a permanent deal.
The 34-year-old is returning to the local league, 17 years after leaving Liberty Professionals.
He has gone on to play in Premier League with Sunderland and dominated United Arab Emirates league. The Al Ain striker won the league's golden boot three times.
Gyan has scored 51 goals for the Black Stars since his debut in 2003.
