Ghana star midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has admitted his Schalke 04 side failed to march the class of Real Madrid after their 6-1 thumping in the UEFA Champions League round 16 first leg on Wednesday night.

Boateng started the game for the Royals Blues at the Veltins Arena but he could not alter the fate of the game before being replaced in the 59th minute.

French striker Karim Benzema hit a brace while current world footballer of the year Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice and assisted two other goals as the nine-time champions took a firm step forward to qualify.

And, Boateng admits Madrid were far better than them in the game.

"No one is to blame, but we reached our limits today. They were ruthless and deserved the win," he said.

As Boateng was in action for Schalke, compatriot Anthony Annan could not make the squad for the game.
