Ghana striker Caleb Ekuban was entrusted with leading Genoa’s attack in manager Andriy Shevchenko first game in charge of the club, but he failed to impress.

Ekuban extended his goalless run as Genoa were defeated 2-0 AS Roma with Ghanian teenager Felix Afena-Gyan stealing the show with a brace.

The scoreline was barren when the 18-year-old was introduced and made the difference, scoring two brilliant goals to secure three points for Roma and in the process condemn Shevchenko to first defeat as Genoa coach.

Shevchenko was let down by his attackers, especially Ekuban who couldn’t find the net, thereby making it nine games without a goal, his worse run in top-flight.

Ekuban had an earlier chance but shot feebly into the hands of the goalkeeper.

The Black Stars player is running against time to convince the Genoa faithfuls that he is the right man to lead their attack.

The club are 18th on the table having scored 17 goals and conceded 26 after 13 games in the league.

He signed a three-year contract with Genoa in the summer after forcing a move away from Turkish side Trabzonspor.
