Ghana striker Jordan Ayew opens up on new role at Crystal Palace under Patrick Vieira

Ghana striker Jordan Ayew has disclosed that he is playing a different role under new manager Patrick Vieira at Crystal Palace.

The 29-year-old netted his first goal in pre-season since the arrival of Patrick Vieira, as the Eagles defeated Reading 3-1 on Saturday.

“It’s different, because the gaffer came in and had a different style of play and wanted me to have more control of the game, and asked to create a lot of chances," he told the club's official website.

The former Swansea City man insists he is made to stay upfield to reserve a lot of energy.

“He’s trying to keep me high up the pitch, so I have lots of energy. Obviously me, Wilf [Zaha], Christian [Benteke], JP [Mateta] and [Jeff] Schluppy are just trying to put in the best conditions for us to make the difference up front.

“It was a good one for the team because the second-half was not easy. We defended well. There is a lot of positives – the young guys are performing and everything is going to plan.”

Crystal Palace begin their season with a trip to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea on August 14, 2021.
