Ghana takes heavy tumble in latest Fifa ranking

Published on: 29 June 2011

Ghana has moved down a staggering 18 places on the latest Fifa/Coca Cola ranking released on Wednesday.

The west African state is now ranked 33rd in the world and has also been knocked off the perch by Ivory Coast in the African standing.

Ghana earned 509.55 points by beating Congo 3-1 in the 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifier but recorded no points following the Black Stars defeat to South Korea in an international friendly four days later.

Ghana was 15th and 1st in the previous month on the Fifa and Caf ranking respectively but can no longer boast of being the current kings of African soccer as they now lie 2nd.

First five African rankings (Fifa ranking)

1. Cote d'Ivoire (14)

2. Ghana (33)

3. Egypt (34)

4. Burkina Faso (37)

5. Nigeria (41)

This is very good for Ghana football as a whole. It seems we haven't been noticing the decline of the nation's most favorable sport. This decline in the world football rankings will remind us to evaluate out stands in the sport. Nyantakyi, the election is over; therefore it is about time you pick up your tools for work. Accepting positions here and there isn't a problem to me but not be able to perform the task that come with the position will make me get on your nerves. Few people including are backing you up but that doesn't mean we can't make a u-turn to write against you publicly. Get yourselves together GFA!

Ghanaians paa, look at us saying fifa is what? we should know that FIFA does its calculations based on a certain number of years, and we were benefitting from previous wins. We should back up now, for we were becoming coplaicent

GREAT NEWS for the Black Stars and football as a whole in Ghana! It's about time we faced the reality and consequences of the complacency and arrogance of all STAKEHOLDERS!!! The boasting and all to it will now stop ! I hope the authorities would wake up and face the challenges ahead!!!!

The Black Stars sudden drop is partly due to the devaluation of the first phase of matches from the World Cup last year in South Africa.

This is very good for Ghana. Now we will wake up and start winning games. That Korea loss I place squarely on Kingson. We have become complacent. And if no one has noticed we simply go through the motions and the passion of the players is lost. And right now the less said about our junior teams the better.

I think we should blame the the new manager of the black stars for our recent ranking. Thus the level of disciplane in the team is becoming the same thing we have experienced during Abedi era. Why did he allow some prayers to sake stupid excuses to attend a wedding instead of playing for mother Ghana? When mensah was absent his decision to let Muntari captain the team was a bad decision so this shows an indication that he doesn't care about deciplane in the team. If we think we are untouchable because of our performance in SA beleive me we are decieving ourselves.

we shouldn't blame the players but rather blame the authorities how on earth can u play Congo and flew two days or three days and play Korean and the authorities know vividly that the players are tired playing almost 32 league matches around the world in the various club is about time the GFA and co should respect our players and think abt eir health and not to sit ere and think about eir belly and small money they will make thats why most our players get injury becos they dnt get enough time to rest they use em too much with unnecessary matches they need rest and time to spend with eir family not to used em like machines even machines get tired and rest how more about we human we shouldnt blame our players for this dropping on this FIFA ranking about our leaders who governing our football should be blame for that is about time they sit down and come out with proper planning and stop thinking about money money

It is a blessing in disguise, why, it is a rude awakening for the Black Stars. We have to take every game very serious even though we cannot win every match we have lost some winnable games due to costly preventable errors. Back to reality folks, but the stumble to me is too much, FIFA.

The Black Stars were complacent when they played Korea with half stregnth and that has caused their setback to 33 position. Any time the Black Stars becomes complacent they loose the match and therefore they must put their house in order. In other words they must approach every match as a cup final and also they must wear the under dog tag so they can lift up their game for victory.

I think the current position of the Black Stars on the Fifa log is a perfect reflection of the true state of affairs. Our loss to South Korea is a contributory factor. I hope that we win our next match against Nigeria to garner more points for the next monthly ranking. Our Black Stars are still a very formidable side.

Not un-touchable but un-beatable........I hope we qualify against Sudan............it took us almost 70 minutes before we could get the first goal against Congo Brazaville on our home soil and that was after they were given a Red card........so what would have happened if they played 11 against 11...........the coach plavi doesn't know how to bring out the best in our players to play their normal dangerous attacking football....their attack on the day against Congo was suspect though we won

we deserve to drop down from dat position but to be real, we all know this aint right becuz atleast we should be a top 25 ranked country passing the 30th mark is unfortunate meaning fifa is a joke like we have all seen dat corrupt news going around with the fifa vice and AFC president involvement. We should still be the best in the continent and top 25. I cant believe it, what a joke....we lost to Korea and dat dat's not guarantee dis big drop..ranking release is a failure...hahaha at fifa
