The Ghana Television Consortium have launched its plans towards the broadcast of the 2014 World Cup and other FIFA tournaments for the year.
The consortium which is made up of six television stations have acquired the exclusive rights to telecast the World Cup being staged in Brazil.
The consortium have also secured the rights to telecast the FIFA U20 and U17 Women’s World Cup which will all come off this year.
The six local televisions came together to form the consortium in order to form a solid financial base to acquire the expensive broadcast rights to the FIFA tournaments.
This means other broadcast houses outside the consortium interested in the broadcast of the FIFA tournaments must obtain clearance from the consortium.
The merger presents a unique centralized opportunity for corporate advertising.
“This is the power of collaboration and I hope it sends a strong signal to the rest of Africa and the World,†Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah said at the launch on Wednesday.
“That you can achieve more with collective efforts rather than individual efforts.
“And I am in no doubt that this consortium will deliver the best broadcast services for Ghanaians to really enjoy these tournaments.â€
The consortium is made up of GTV, Metro TV, GTV Sports Plus, E-Ghana, Net 2 and First Digital TV.
