Ghana to protest against Sudan U23 for fielding unqualified player

Ghana are considering an appeal against Sudan for fielding an unqualified player in their Olympic Games qualifier over the weekend.

The Sudanese fielded striker Ramadan Al Agab who is suspected to be overage for the U23 competition.

According records available to some Ghana FA officials, Al Agab has played previously on the continent with his date of birth 1st January 1986.

This means he is 25 which makes him ineligible for the match in Khartoum and showed his effectiveness by opening the scoring in the second leg which was cancelled out by Sadick Adams’ strike.

“There is some small hope as there is an issue of Sudan using an over-age player,” Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu said.

The revelation has sparked some hope for the Black Meteors that they could qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London.

Sudan eliminated the West Africans from the qualifying rounds of the London 2012 All Africa Games after managing a 1-1 with Khartoum on Saturday.

Sudan advanced 2-1 on aggregate after positing a shocking lone goal victory over the Black Meteors in the first held in Accra a fortnight ago.

The result served one of the major surprises in the continental qualifiers for next year’s games as the Ghanaians were highly tipped to make mince meat of the Young Desert Hawks.
