Ghana U23 player to gain Black Stars promotion

Some players from the victorious Ghana U23 team that won the All Africa Games men's title are being considered for the Black Stars.

The Black Meteors beat South Africa on penalties on Saturday to win gold at the competition held in Mozambique.

Ghana's U23 was coached by Black Stars assistant manager Akwasi Appiah who supervised the side to victory.

Appiah will return to his duties of assisting the Ghana coach Goran 'Plavi' Stevanovic this week and he will recommend some players for future call-ups.

"I have noted some few players I think are capable of excelling for the Black Stars which I will propose to Plavi,” Akwasi Appiah told MTNFootball.com.

“I will not name the player until I meet the Black Stars head coach so we can discuss them before we make anything public.

"I have been a strong believer of the fact that there are some players in our local league who can play for the Black Stars or even maybe get some valuable experience with the team."

The Black Meteors won the title without any foreign-based player which has sparked calls for some of them to be included in the Black Stars.

Home-based players struggle to gain a place in the Black Stars because most of the country's best players ply their trade abroad.

Local players are quickly signed by foreign clubs when they impress while playing for the Black Stars which makes it difficult to keep home-based player in the squad.
