Black Stars of Ghana

Ghana welcome Ethiopia  the Cape Coast Sports Stadium for a matchday one qualifier for the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Friday.

After a 1-1 aggregate draw in 2019 with Lesotho, Ethiopia reached this stage of the qualifiers by virtue of away goals. Ghana eceived a bye to this round by virtue of their superior standing on the continent.

Since being held to a draw by Ivory Coast during a friendly in June, the hosts have not been active.

In August, Ethiopia beat Uganda 2-1 in friendly. Abed Yalew and Abubeker Nassir scored in either half of the match to help the Walias beat their East African counterparts.

Both nations have been drawn in Group G of the qualifiers alongside South Africa and Zimbabwe and only the top-placed side will secure progress to the third round of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Ghana vs Ethiopia Head-to-Head

This will be the fifth meeting of the sides. Ghana has the better record, with three wins. Ethiopia won on one occasion.

Their last meeting was in an AFCON 2019 qualifying match, when Jordan Ayew scored a brace in the first half to help Ghana win 2-0 away.

Ghana vs Ethiopia Team News

Charles Akonnor, coach of the team, has named a provisional 30-man team for the qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia amid concerns about the availability of English-based players.

Jordan Ayew and Jeffery Schupp, both Premier League players, are the main 32 players in camp at present. Team captain Andre Ayew is also on the roster.

Youngster Kamaldeen Sulemana is also in the squad.

However, the players based in England will not be able to travel to South Africa for the next few days due to South Africa being on the United Kingdom's "red list" for COVID-19 protocols.

Due to various issues, Tariq Fosu and Benson Anang, Kelvin Yeboah, Thomas Teye Partey and Mohammed Kudus were all unable report to training.

Ghana vs Ethiopia Prediction

Ghana is a strong favorite to win over Ethiopia at home and the Black Stars have enough talent despite not having some key players.

We expect neither side to be particularly well-known for their attacking prowess, and we predict a routine win for the hosts as well as a clean sheet.

Prediction: Ghana 3-0 Ethiopia
