Dr Tony Aubyn, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has revealed why the Black Stars squad for the 2022 World Cup playoff tie against Nigeria has not been released despite a few weeks to crucial games.

With 10 days to the first meeting, Ghanaians have no idea which players have been invited to take on the Super Eagles. By contrast, Nigeria released their squad on March 4.

Before the end of last week, reports emerged that GFA has concluded that the squad won't be released as a ‘surprise strategy’.

But speaking to Starr FM, Dr Aubyn said, “The reason why the squad has not been released is a technical decision backed by management.”

“We recently formed the technical team and the management team and I’m sure they have a reason why and they have their own timelines. It is for a good reason.”

According to him, he can’t tell when the squad will be announced though he is an EXCO member, but, he believes it will be soon.

“I can not explain even though I’m in the EXCO. We have given them the responsibility to the technical team. I believe that the squad will be announced soon and I can’t tell how soon because I don’t know the timeline.” he added

Ghanasoccernet.com can report that the list is ready with the invited players expected to arrive this weekend to start preparations for the games.

Ghana will host the first leg on March 25, with the second leg taking place in Abuja four days later.

The winner of the tie will be in Qatar for the tournament.
