Ghana vs Zimbabwe: England-born goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott handed Black Stars debut

Published on: 09 October 2021

England-born goalkeeper Jojo Wollacott will play his first match for the Black Stars a few weeks after receiving his debut call-up.

Wollacott has been included in Ghana's starting line-up for the must win 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Zimbabwe.

He will be in goal as first-choice goalkeeper Richard Ofori is unavailable and head coach Milovan Rajevac has clearly shown that he doesn't trust Lawrence Ati Zigi, Ibrahim Danland and Richard Atta who get call-ups often.

Wollacott has a huge opportunity to shut critics who questioned his inclusion in the squad because he plays in the fourth-tier of English football.

The 25-year-old took the bold decision to leave Championship side Bristol City, where he was warning the bench, and join Swindon Town in the summer and he is reaping the benefits.

He has featured consistently for Swindon, with 10 games under his belt so far this season. Wollacott has conceded eight goals and kept four clean sheets.
