Ghana will be ready for 2022 World Cup- Kurt Okraku

Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku has assured that the Black Stars will be ready for the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

The Black Stars have been placed in Group H alongside Portugal, Uruguay, and Korea Republic.

The GFA has secured three high-profile friendlies ahead of the World Cup to ensure Coach Otto Addo and his technical team get the needed preparations for the tournament.

Ghana will face five-time World Champions Brazil, Switzerland, and Nicaragua as part of preparations ahead of the Mundial.

Speaking at the Coca-Cola World Cup trophy tour in Ghana, Kurt Okraku stated the Black Stars will get the needed preparation and the target is to qualify out of the group.

“I believe Team Ghana will be ready come November, Team Ghana will be very competitive and when I say Team Ghana will be competitive, I hope all of us know what I mean. Our singular determination is to go out of the group and once we go out of the group the rest is open for everybody,” he said at the press conference.

Ghana nearly made it to the semifinals in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and the incumbent GFA president is confident the Black Stars can re-write history at this year’s tournament.

“We are very much determined to rewrite history and everybody who will be part of the contingent to the Mundial in November will be ready when the alarm bells ring. We are Ghana and we will show the world that we are Ghana. Let us believe and stand united behind the team. This is our Black Stars and we have to be supportive of our Black Stars. Ghana will stand firm shoulder to shoulder with the other countries.”

The Black Stars defeated Nigeria in the World Cup playoff to make a fourth appearance at the tournament this year.

Ghana’s best performance at the World Cup is a quarter-final finish in 2010 in South Africa.

The team last played in the tournament at the 2014 edition in Brazil and were eliminated in the group stage.

The four-time African champions will open their campaign against Portugal on November 24, 2022.
