Ghana winger Edwin Gyasi has disclosed how he stole money to purchase his first football boots in the neighbourhood he grew up in.

Gyasi, 27, who joined Bulgarian giants CSKA Sofia in January, has quickly become a mainstay in the side after scoring 3 goals in 17 appearances.

But the FC Twente wideman's formative years in Amsterdam was tough after revealing how he struggled to buy football cleats.

“In this type of neighborhood where I grew up, there are only two ways: either you go left or you go to the right, or the right or wrong way,” he said

“The boys I grew up with … some of them are no longer alive because the neighborhood was hard to live.

“It was not just a neighborhood but a hard place. Bad things were happening there. But I had strict parents, especially my father.

“It prevented us from going through the streets. We did not have the money to buy football shoes, we had to steal them wherever we go.”
