American-born Ghanaian Charles Sapong grabbed the consolation for Kansas City when English champions Manchester City battered them 4-1 in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday night.

An all-conquering Manuel Pellegrini side proved ruthless in attack but the Ghanaian attacker had earlier restored hopes of a Kansas challenge when he cancelled a Bruno Zuculini early-minute strike.

The tone of the contest was set early as Zuculini raced the Etihad giants into the lead with power and precision into the bottom left corner of Sporting KC's goal.

However Sapong restored hopes for the host at the Sporting Park when Benny Feilhaber's cross into the area found Sapong, who had time to take a touch and finish past the stranded Willy Caballero on the half-hour mark.

The 25-year-old's strike could not prevail as City took the game to their hosts and scored three more times.
