Ghanaian clubs pay tribute to Rawlings

The Ghanaian football space has been hit with the death of Former Ghana President Jerry John Rawlings who passed away on Thursday at age 73. 

Rawlings, Ghana’s first President of the Fourth Republic, passed at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where he was receiving treatment on Thursday.

It was unclear what caused his death, but reports say he was unwell and was at the intensive care unit at the hospital.

His death has shocked the country with a lot of tributes from the international community pouring in.

The former Ghanaian leader was passionate about football and was the last president on the seat when Ghana won its fourth AFCON title in 1982.

Ghana's Black Stars wore a black armband to honour the late President in their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

Black Stars captain Andre Ayew dedicated the win after the game to the late President.
