Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Mitch Apau and his RKC Waalwijk side are on the brink of elimination from the Dutch top-flight but they could survive relegation on the final day of the season.

Waalwijk are 16th on an 18-club table and need victory against Heerenveen at the Mandemakers Stadion and hope NAC Breda slip at PSV Eindhoven to allow them escape a play-off place.

However if Breda manage a point at PSV and Waalwijk secure all the maximum against Heerenveen, their fate will still be determined by a relegation play-off.

Apau, 24, has enjoyed an overly successful season with Waalwijk as he has played 28 games, starting 22 and completing 18 from either a central defensive role or as a right-back.

He joined Waalwijk from Volendam before the start of the season.
