Ghanaian defender Lalas Abubakar has joined FC Dallas, his new club, for pre-season ahead of the 2025 Major League Soccer season.
Abubakar joined FC Dallas as a free agent in December after leaving Colorado Rapids.
The experienced MLS defender returned to the United States after a short holiday in Ghana to join FC Dallas as preparations begin for the new season.
The 29-year-old and his teammates were taken through intensive drills to kick start pre-season in Dallas.
Abubakar, who has spent his entire senior football career in the United States, previously played for Columbus Crew in the MLS.
He arrives in Dallas after making 153 appearances for Rapids, helping them reach the playoffs last season. He scored nine goals during his time in Colorado.
FC Dallas Sporting Director Andre Zonatto believes the 2019 and 2020 Defensive Player of the Year for Rapids will add experience and quality to their defence.
“We’re very happy to sign Lalas to our roster,” he said. “Strengthening our defensive group this offseason was a priority. Lalas provides us a great player, competitor, and flexibility along our backline. We look forward to him joining our group once preseason begins.”
Abubakar, who is yet to play for Ghana at international level, acquired his United States Citizenship last year.
