Mohammed Salisu makes La Liga breakthrough XI of the season

Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu has been named in the La Liga breakthrough team of the season by Spanish news portal Marca following an outstanding season.

The 20-year-old has been rock-solid in defence in his maiden appearance in the Spanish top-flight with Real Valladolid.

Salisu emerged as the U-21 player with the highest rate of successful clearances in all the top five European Leagues in Europe this season thus the La Liga, Premier League, Serie A, French Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga.

The breakthrough XI of the season is designed for players who played a significant role for their clubs in their debut season and also youngsters who were the revelations in the league.

Salisu joined Real Valladolid as a youth player on a five-year deal in 2017.

The 21-year-old made 31 appearances for Valladolid scoring once and also assisting once in the 2019/2020 campaign.

Salisu has attracted offers from several European clubs with English side Southampton leading the chase to land the talented central defender.
