Ghanaian defender Nicholas Opoku returns for Amiens after eight months out with injury

Ghanaian defender Nicholas Opoku was named in Amiens' first team squad for the first time in eight months for Saturday's match against Nancy in French Ligue 2.

Opoku was dimmed fit for the encounter and was included in the squad but was unused as Amiens secured a 1-0 victory at Stade de la Licorne.

The 24-year-old was on the bench for the entire duration of the match which Amiens won courtesy of a late goal by Congolese midfielder Chadrac Akolo.

Opoku had been unavailable since July 2020 when he underwent surgery for a cruciate ligament injury.

The injury kept him out of action until January this year when he started playing for the Amiens reserve team.

After being assessed for some time, the medical team declared him fully ready to return to the first team and he looked pleased to return and help the club.

The serious injury ruled Opoku out of Ghana’s squad for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon earlier this year.

Opoku has scored one goal in 12 appearances for the Black Stars.
