Ghanaian defender Ofosu-Ayeh on Newcastle's wish list

German-born Ghanaian Phil Ofosu-Ayeh has emerged as a shock target for English outfit Newcastle United.

The 20-year-old who play for German third-tier side Rot Weiss Erfurt has seen a meteoric rise this term where has featured prominently for the Bundesliga 111 outfit.

The tall and intelligent defender is hoping to represent Ghana at the international level.

“As far as the global game of football is concerned Ghana is number in Africa, given their performance at the World cup in South Africa 2010,” Ofosu-Ayeh said

“Personally, I feel more Ghanaian and would always be ready to play for my father’s country when the opportunity comes,”

Ofosu-Ayeh was given a call-up to the preliminary squad for the 2011 African Youth Championship, but his club at the time SV Wilhelmshaven, refused to give him permission to play at the tournament.

He was born in Moers to a German mother and a Ghanaian father.
