Ghanaian-born Togolese international Wilson Akakpo has joined Iraqi top-flight side Al-Najaf FC on a short-term contract, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively report.

Akakpo will be with the Najaf based club until the end of the 2020/2021 season with an option to renew.

The centre-back cut ties with Egypt Premier League outfit Ittihad Alexandria after he didn't extend his expired contract in 30 June 2020.

Akakpo enjoyed a loan spell at Saudi Arabia side Al-Shoalah FC for six months in 2019.

He left Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League to join Al Masry SC in July 2014 before moving Ittihad four years later.

Akakpo has made two appearances for Togo since switching his nationality from Ghana.
