Published on: 01 December 2015

Ghanaian-born Gabriel Boakye could win his first individual career honour after being nominated for the Canada Soccer Men's U-17 Best Player Award.

The 17-year-old who plays for Toronto FC U17 side earned the spot in the nomination following his extraordinary performance for both club and country.

Boakye, born to Ghanaian parents in Richmond Hill - Canada, was singled for praise following his sterling performance for Canada U17 at the 2015 CONCACAF Men’s Under-17 Championship in San Pedro - Honduras.

However he must beat off competition from international team-mates Ballou Tabla, Harrison Paton, Duwayne Ewart, Kadin Chung and Tristan Borges.

The promising winger speaks English and Twi as his father was born in Kumasi while his mother was born in Accra - Ghana and grew up playing football as an eight-years-old when he started playing soccer for Oakridges SC. Boakye's favourites include Franck Ribéry, Arjen Robben and Chelsea.
