Former Liverpool target and Ghana youth international defender Daniel Amartey has revealed that he was forced to reject a trial at Anfield as he hurt his hand just before the call-up.
The versatile 19-year old can play as a defender as well as a defensive midfielder, and is currently plying his trade at Swedish club Djurgardens.
He has now made 32 appearances in all competitions for the Swedish outfit, and feels honoured at being a transfer target for Liverpool.
The twice capped Ghana Under-20 international was quoted by Sky Sports as saying, “I was invited for a trial with the club and was supposed to go there.
But I hurt my hand and was forced to reject it. It is truly a big club and it feels really flattering that they are interested.â€
Liverpool were rumoured to be interested in the versatile defender last year, and given their manager Brendan Rodgers’ eye for top young talent, it will not be surprising to see the Reds revive their interest in the teenager this summer.
Although Amartey may not be able to break straight into the Reds’ first team, the prospect of playing at one of the best academies in Europe is sure to appeal to the young Ghanaian.
