Ghanaian midfielder David Gordon Mawutor says footballers and the game has been hit hard in Kazakhstan after the total shutdown of all activities in the Eastern European country.

The FC Zhetysu Taldykorgan defensive midfielder, who has emerged as one of the shining stars in the Kazakhstan Premier League, revealed the difficulties they are facing following the suspension of football.

"It has affected our game seriously because we started the league two weeks ago, unfortunately the players here can't go to different countries, we can't go to different cities because they have closed all the borders so we are here without training, gym so it's very problem here in Kazakhstan," he told Happy FM.

"I wish I will come to Ghana but if I come and returning to Kazakhstan they will quarantine me for two weeks so I need to stay here in Kazakhstan," he added.

Kazakhstan has lock down its capital Nur-Sultan and biggest city Almaty from March 19 after both reported coronavirus cases, the state emergency commission said on Tuesday.

In addition to restricted movement of people and vehicles, the authorities instructed restaurants to switch to delivery-only mode and said they may shut down public transport in the two cities, each populated by more than 1 million people.

The Kazakhstan topflight league is just three games old.
