Ghanaian midfielder Moritz-Broni Kwarteng scores as Magdeburg clinch Bundesliga 3 title

Ghanaian midfielder Moritz-Broni Kwarteng scored his very first goal of the season as FC Magdeburg beat TSV 1860 Munich to clinch Bundesliga 3 title on Saturday.

Magdeburg sealed their triumph in the 2021-22 campaign with an emphatic 4-0 victory over 1860 Munich at the MDCC-Arena.

Magdeburg will finish top of the Bundesliga 3 standings despite having three games remaining so for the season to end. They are 11 points above second placed Eintracht Braunschweig.

Magdeburg is making a return to the Bundesliga 2 after achieving same feat in the 2018/2019 season.

Their spell in the Bundesliga 2 was short lived and on 12 May 2019 they were relegated back to the Bundesliga 3.

Amara Conde opened the scoring for the hosts six minutes after recess. Japanese forward Tatsuya Ito doubled the lead in the 75th minute of the game.

Kwarteng was introduced in the match in the 72nd minute after replacing midfielder Jason Ceka.

The 24-year-old Germany-born Ghanaian and Baris Atik scored twice in stoppage time to complete the victory for Magdeburg.

Kwarteng joined the Magdeburg after a year without a team since leaving Hamburg, and played 10 games, scoring once and assisting two to help the club qualify for the second-tier next season.

The talented midfielder was born in Stuttgart to Ghanaian parents, where he began his career before joining RB Liepzig.

He later joined Hoffenheim and after showing great o]potential, he attracted interested from Hamburg, who signed him in 2018.
