Ghanaian talent Edgard Opoku signs first professional contract with KAA Gent

KAA Gent continues to showcase their commitment to youth development, with yet another young talent stealing the limelight.

On April 11, 2025, the club proudly announced that Edgard Opuku, one of the U-16 team stars, has signed his first professional contract with the club - promising his stay till 2028.

At an imposing 1.95 meters tall, Opoku is a commanding presence in central defence.

Since joining the Buffalo Talent Centre in 2022, he has demonstrated remarkable growth, both physically and technically.

His game smarts, combined with his aerial ability and ball control, have made him a central figure in the youth ranks.

Coaches and scouts both have taken note of his maturity in the game and have frequently marketed him as the waiting leader.

Ghana's future 16-year-old defender remains looking up, a casualty of Gent's well-entrenched development policy, which, quite recently, commemorated championship successes in the 1st National League.

At the eve of Opoku moving to Jong KAA Gent, expectations are huge for the rest of his trajectory.

It is a highlight to sign his first professional contract, but for Opoku, it is merely the beginning.
