Ghanaian midfielder Dennis Danso Weidlich was on target à for German Liga 3 side à Rot-Weiss in their 3-2 loss to Preußenà over the weekend.
The result effectively ended the Erfurt-based clubââ¬â¢s chances of promotion to the second tier with a staggering 10-points difference between them and the occupants of the final automatic qualifying spot Chemnitzer with four games left to go.
The 25-year-old German-born though gutted by the teamââ¬â¢s poor showing remains positive of its future prospects.
ââ¬ÅThere is still a chance of promotion but it is unlikely,â⬠Weidlich told GHANAsoccernet.com.
ââ¬ÅMore important is that we get fourth place to qualify for the cup next year. That is the aim.
ââ¬ÅLots of people left last season. We had many new, young players from smaller teams. It was hard to play as a team at the beginning, but by the end we formed as a team.
ââ¬ÅWe were a bit inexperienced. Next year could be a great team. It is a bit disappointing.ââ¬
For the ex Arsenal trainee, it has been a memorable season. Despite the team missing out on promotion, Weidlich can celebrate the recent arrival of his son.
But, family reasons have meant that he is still unsure about what the future holds.
ââ¬ÅThey (Rot-Weiss) came to me in November, but for family reasons it wasn't right time to deal with that [contract renewal],â⬠Weidlich continued.
ââ¬ÅNow my son is born, I am still waiting for their offer. It was a new experience for me to play in the east of Germany, it is a great club.
ââ¬ÅIf it doesn't happen, it is my dream to play in England again. I love the game there. It is so fast and suited to my style.ââ¬
