Arsenal have announced teenage defender Daniel Boateng has agreed a contract extension.

The versatile 19-year-old, who can play at centre-back or on the right, made his first-team debut in October, when he featured as a substitute against Bolton in the Carling Cup.

Arsenal have high hopes for Boateng and he has been a prominent player in their reserve setup.

Boateng joined the Gunners' Academy eight years ago and signed professional terms in the summer of 2010.

Arsenal said in a statement: "Everyone at Arsenal football club looks forward to Daniel's continued progress in the coming years."
