Ghana defender Najeeb Yakubu played the full throttle for his side, Vorskla Poltava as they lost at home to giants, Shakhtar Donetsk.

Najeeb, who is a mainstay for Juri Maximov’s side was deployed at left back in their 2-0 defeat in the Ukrainian top flight on Sunday.

The home side held their own against Shakhtar until the 41st minute when Junior Moraes shot the visitors into the lead.

Shakhtar Donetsk held on to the slim lead into the break.

Back from recess, Vorskla pushed for the equalizer but a resilient Shakhtar curtailed their incursions.

Brazilian born Ukrainian international, Junior Moraes increased the lead for Shakhtar’s in the 61st minute.

Najeeb Yakubu’s presence in the squad was not enough to salvage a point for his side.

He however displayed the quality he is noted for, racing along the left wing.

The defeat leaves Vorskla in 5th on the league table with 30 points from 20 games.

They are just a place below a Europa League place.
