Ghana's Annan wants to win Nations Cup for deceased mother

Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan has targeted to win the Africa Cup of Nations as a beffiting farewell to his late mother Sophia Sampson.

She was pronounced dead at the Cape-Coast hospital after falling ill earlier on Thursday.

The Holland-based player heard the bad news last night in camp as preparations for thier quarter-final clash against Tunisia.

"I am saddened by the death of my mother but I am still focused and committed to going out there to play for my nation and help win the Africa Cup of Nations title," Annan told the Ghana FA official website.

"Winning the title would serve as a big honour in memory of my mother," he added.

Annan has played all three matches for Ghana at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
