Ghana defender Nicholas Opoku is set to return to Udinese following the demotion of Amiens SC from the French Ligue 1.
On Tuesday, the French prime minister Edouard Philippe said the 2019-20 campaign could not restart due to all sporting events being banned until September amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Paris Saint-Germain were declared Ligue 1 champions, while Toulouse and Amiens were relegated to the second tier. Lorient were promoted as winners of Ligue 2, with Lens following them for the 2020-21 campaign.
The decision by the Ligue de Football Professionel (LFP) has had great impact on Nicholas Opoku's contract with the Unicorns.
Opoku joined the club during the January transfer window from Italian side Udinese for €500,000, with the option of making the move a permanent one for €5 million.
Amongst the condition for a permanent move was that if the player help the club survive relegation, a deal will be struck to see him seal his future in France.
However, Amiens option to sign the Ghana international permanently has been dealt a big blow following their demotion to the second-tier hence he will return to his parent club Udinese.
After struggling with game time at Udinese, the 22-year-old established himself at the Stade de la Licorne, playing 630 minutes of football during his short stay with the club.
