Ghana's Rahim Ayew wants to quit Zamalek

Zamalek midfielder Rahim Ayew revealed his intention of leaving the Cairo club in the winter transfer window due to lack of first-team opportunities.

The Ghanaian player, who joined the White Knights in the summer of 2009, was given the chance to play regularly when French tactician Henri Michel was at the helm.

However, Ayew has been struggling in vain to establish himself as a starter under Michel's predecessor Hossam Hassan, who became in charge nearly a year ago.

The 22-year-old said he's no longer holding out hope for a senior-team spot and decided to part ways with Zamalek.

"The technical staff are not considering playing me. I don't get any opportunities," Ayew told FilGoal.com.

"My non-participation cost me my place in Ghana's squad, so I will hand in a transfer request to Zamalek in January."

Ayew, son of Ghana legend Abedi Ayew 'Pele', was called up for the 2010 World Cup but didn't make a single appearance during the gigantic competition.

"They (Zamalek) promised me a chance more than once but never field me, although I always show discipline in training," he added.

About a couple of months ago, Zamalek football director Ibrahim Hassan said Ayew 'could still feature with Zamalek this season'.
