Telecommunications giants, Glo Mobile Ghana have paid $1.2m to the Ghana FA as part-payment of its sponsorship of the Premier League.

Bulk of the amount will go to the clubs as commitment payment in the five year deal worth $15m.

The remaining amount will be used to settle referee fees and other administrative costs involved in the running of the 16-team league.

Ghana FA President Kwasi Nyantakyi expressed delight at the payment made after a meeting with Glo’s Chief Operating officer, George Andah last week especially at a time when complaints by clubs over the delay of sponsorship payments were simmering.

“The latest payment from Glo is very timely four our clubs and we thank Glo that they have continued their support for the club,” Nyantakyi said.

The current Premier League leaders Asante Kotoko have already revealed they will be using their quota of the payment (about $40,000) as down payment for a recently incurred 99,000 Euro fine to be paid to German coach Hans Dieter Schmidt for his wrongful dismissal in 2005.
