Dutch-Ghanaian defender Godfried Frimpong registered a fine assist in Moreirense’s 3-1 loss to Sporting CP in Liga Portugal on Friday night at Estádio José Alvalade.
Facing a dominant Sporting side, Frimpong stood out with a pinpoint cross in the 56th minute, which Cedric Teguia headed into the top corner for a consolation goal. It was Frimpong’s third assist of the season and came after a tough first half that saw Viktor Gyökeres put Sporting 2-0 up within 25 minutes.
Gyökeres completed his hat trick in the 52nd minute with a well-taken free kick, extending Sporting’s lead to 3-0. Frimpong’s involvement in Moreirense’s only goal gave the visitors a brief moment of hope, but the home side’s control, reflected in their 64% possession and 20 shots, proved too much.
Frimpong, 25, played 78 minutes before being subbed off. Moreirense remain mid-table and now look ahead to their April 27 clash with Nacional.
Sporting’s dominance continues, extending their head-to-head record against Moreirense to 16 wins.
