Published on: 14 January 2022

The Golden Boot is a personal achievement for any striker or high scoring midfielder. With 2019 Golden Boot winner Odion Ighalo blocked by his club from appearing, a new winner will be crowned in this year's tournament. You can go onto Betway Ghana and take part in Africa’s Golden Boot Ace competitions and stand a chance to win 10,000 GHS, all you need to do is correctly guess who will be the Golden Boot winner, how many goals will be scored and you get entered into the draw. Here are 5 strong candidates for this year's Golden Boot award.

Sebastien Haller is one to watch out for, not only will the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Wilfred Zaha be there to provide assists but the Ivorian has been in fine scoring form this season for his club Ajax. He has scored 10 goals in 6 Champions League appearances and already has 12 goals in this season's Eredivisie. Ivorian fans will hope he continues to bring this goal scoring form into AFCON 2021.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang may be having a tough time at Arsenal of late, but his striking pedigree is there non the less. With the fall out at Arsenal and a potential move on the cards he may well be motivated to show his worth to potential clubs out there looking for an ace striker.

Sadio Mane

Sadio Mane is in decent form for his club Liverpool this season and with scoring 3 goals in AFCON 2019 he will hope he can net a few more in this year's tournament and pip his Liverpool team mate Mo Salah who is also a strong contender for the award.

Riyahd Mahrez

Riyahd Mahrez has scored six goals for Manchester City this season but it is in the big games for his country that his presence is really felt, and with captaining the side in this year's tournament he is sure to lead from the front. With a deft left foot, Riyad Mahrez is one to keep an eye on.

Mo Salah

Mo Salah is possibly the favourite to win this year's Golden Boot award, the Egyptian is probably the best African player at the moment. He has scored 21 goals this season so far for his club team Liverpool and provided countless assists, there is not a more lethal striker in AFCON 2021 than him. If Egypt makes it all the way to the final, he is sure to claim the Golden Boot in this year's tournament.
