Government 'begs' local clubs to release players for international assignments

Ghana's government has pleaded with local clubs to release their players for international duty.

The ruling New Patriotic Party appears to be backward paddling after 'begging' local clubs to release players for impending international assignment.

The two-man committee appointed by FIFA and CAF Dr Kofi Amoah and Francis Oti Akenteng to supervise the country's engagement in international assignments, relayed the appeal when they met with members of the Ghana League Clubs Association in Accra on Monday.

Government attempts to dissolve the FA after explosive investigative piece by journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas revealed widespread corruption, has thrown local football into turmoil.

The local league has been frozen with the 'crime scene'  headquarters of the Ghana FA under lock and keys.

The move has affected and delayed preparations of the country's Under-20 team and the female Under-20 team in impending international assignment.

CAF has granted the country's request for postponement of the first leg of the final qualifying round of the male African Under-20 Championship against Benin.

The first leg was scheduled to take place on Friday, 13th July, 2018 but CAF have accepted Ghana's request and have rescheduled the the first leg fixture for Sunday, 29th July, 2018 with the second leg coming off a week later.

Government's attempt to dissolve the FA has been viewed as 'unsustainable' as pressure continues to mount on the ruling party.
