"Government's support key to revive GPL"- Hon Kobena Woyome

Member of Parliament for South Tongu, Honourable Kobena Woyome believes government's intervention can help revive the Ghana Premier League.

The Ghanaian topflight league has suffered mass exodus with some of the best players leaving prematurely due to poor wages.

The league has also been poorly patronised by fans with spectatorship at its lowest even in games between Hearts of Oak and Asante Koko.

According to Honourable Woyome, a collaboration between government, the corporate world and the key stakeholders could bring back life to the league.

"The government should be able to support in a way," he told Citi Sports. "The government might not be able to do much fully, but it should be able to support," added the astute politician.

"I would also want to suggest that this should be opened up for a whole broader discussion to bring all stakeholders together to discuss how do we support our league financially.

He continued: "How do we bring cooperate Ghana on board? What are the incentives for those who will come in and support? what do we have for them in return? And again what do we dedicate in  terms of funding to support? What do we have for them in return? All these are matters of policy and open discussions."
